History of Two Bars Seven Ranch

The ranch was established during the days of the territorial government before Wyoming was a state. It has been in the family for four generations and a dude ranch for three generations. Our horses and cattle carry the lines of our ancestral breeding programs. Some of our guests are also three generations of vacationers. The ranch is still its original size.

We have done family reunions for people who have gotten married here and now have grand children. To be the place where it all got started is truly meaningful to us. It gives us such a wonderful purpose to our life's work as a dude ranch. The guest are riding horses that are descendants of their very first favorite horse and taking their next generation to their favorite old fishing hole.

When my ancestors first arrived in this beautiful land, it was run by a lady from Nova Scotia. She had raised oxen and sold them to the railroad that was starting to be built across the frontier. It was hard for my family to make it here, as they did not know much about ranching. The mother of the family was of English royalty from the House of Doson and knew how to entertain at a sophisticated level. She would have a party for the community and many people would come and help with a barn rising or with the ranching. This is how it got started as a guest ranch. (Here is a photo of Great Grandma Polly Doson dinning her rancher friends.)

    Western dude ranch

My favorite dude ranch story is of our first real costumer, a young lady who was a member of the famous Vanderbilt family. They didn't think she was a happy customer because she spent a great deal of her time in the bathroom getting ready. To everyone's surprise, she came again the next year, spent much less time in the bathroom, and she never went home. She moved into Laramie Wyoming and married someone with a little country general store and cafe.
